step into my office, baby.

i thought it was high time for everyone to see my work space, so i took my camera with me about a week ago. when i first started at the end of november, i shared this room with another worker. she got moved upstairs with the rest of the department, and i was told that i'd move up there too once they got a computer set up. that was about a month and a half ago, and they're still trying to get the IT guy to make all the necessary connections. so since then, i've been working quite independently in this little room next to the cafeteria.

the empty divided shelf space behind me is for holding radiology jackets. its my responsibility to take the previous day's mammography films, pair them with previous films for comparison, and then hang them for the radiologists to read. the whole process takes between 2-3 hours, depending on how quick i'm feeling. the rest of the day is spent performing other clerical tasks for various people around the department.

on thursday i interviewed for a permanent position in the department. they need someone to not only continue what i've been doing with the films, but also another patient service rep who can rotate throughout the department and help where needed. that means that half my week would be spent at the clinic assisting patients, and the other half would be out on the mobile mammography van (which makes day trips to outlying counties to provide mammograms for their residents). i'd have to learn how to drive the van (which is about the size of a large RV, maybe larger) and obtain a CDL license, but i'm prepared to take on that challenge.

i'll probably know sometime this week if they're going to hire me permanently. i'll be really surprised if i don't get it; everyone in the department wants me to stay and has been urging the management to keep me. lets just hope that they listen...
