in your face, red planet!

so josh and i saw this imax movie at the science center called 'blue planet'. it had a lot of pictures of the earth taken from space, and showed a lot of natural phenomenon like volcanos and hurricanes from that perspective. the movie also compared the earth to other planets in the solar system. at one point, they were talking about atmospheres. they showed a picture of mars, and said, 'in comparison to earth's, mars' atmosphere is feeble and weak'. josh and i just looked at each other and started laughing.

That's some pretty tweaking writing. Reminds me of the Strassbourgh river cruise, when they refer to the Germans as "..the people on the other side of the Rhine."

It makes us earthlings sound awfully planet-centric.

It reminds me of a National Geographic documentary Matthew and I saw ages ago that was probably made in the late seventies. It had something to do with cattle farming in Mexico, I think, and the various ailments that cattle are susceptible to. They started it off with this indigenous woman praying in front of a lit candle, with the following voice over, "Deep in the heart of the Andes where people still pray . . ." Cut to a shot of a white Chevy truck pulling up to the farm. Two scientists get out with immunization kits in tow. Science saves the heard!

That's not ethnocentric or anything is it?
