it was a huuuge choir....

did anyone else see the newsweek article featured on msn today about the mormon church? i thought it was pretty interesting. they also had a slideshow featuring 'megachurches', and they included the conference center...even though it's technically not a church.

An interesting article--not becuase there was any new information in it, but becuase of the author's tone.

It is sometimes a bit surreal to read articles about the chruch that are so obviously intended to cause the reader to flinch and think "wierdos". This one didn't seem that way, which was nice. It seemed journalistically responsible.

There are many things that are problematic for me about mormonism, and almost all of those things are directly tied to Joseph Smith's life and claims.

That not withstanding, the fact remains that my life goes better and I am happier when I am reading the book of mormon than when I am not. If that wasn't the case, I'd be out. But it is the case, so I'm in.

I'm a "Mormon" and am glad to see the media report the facts without antagonistic overtones. I felt that it clearly and fairly represented what the Mormons believe. I can't tell you how I hate the misinterpretation that so many people have thinking that we believe that Joseph Smith has any saving power. We believe that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ and his atonement. Were it not for Him, we could not be forgiven of our sins and this is the basis of Joseph Smith's teachings and the central theme of the Book of Mormon. If people would just leave their prejudices aside and listen for understanding and tolerance, they would see that Mormonism is not anti-Christian at all, but we strive to live like Him always.
